The eldest of George Weatherill's children. She was taught by her father and by her late teens was teaching pupils herself. Some of her wealthier pupils invited Mary to join them on sketching tours of France, Italy,
Germany , Switzerland and Norway. She specialized in architectural subjects and in 1891 was describing
herself as a 'landscape artist and sculp' - an engraver of printing plates. She exhibited in London, Leeds and York.
