Héléne -Louise Schwab was born on the 22nd of November 1878 in Baume-les-Dames, France. She studied under Jacques Fernand Humbert (1842 – 1924), who was influenced by Puvis de Chavannes and from 1921 she exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français, where she was a member. She continued to exhibit annually until 1934. She was a painter of figurative subjects and landscapes, and her light impressionist style is typical of the period between the two World Wars.
This painting was exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1922. Her work appears infrequently on the market, as the majority of her paintings have been retained by the family.
