George Stainton was a marine painter who usually depicts vessels in calm seas with soft lighting, often at dawn or sunset. His style is accomplished and he seems to have been heavily influenced by the Dutch School. He exhibited 119 paintings at the Royal Society of Birmingham Artists between 1865 and 1905. His work is highly collectable.
